Now I feel I am ready to write it.

This always was going to be the journey of a lifetime, regardless of expectations, highs and lows. Many of the stories I look back on with a smile. The team became my family and boy did we have some laughs. Simon and Bevs constant humour, Hollys crazy moments, Kates blonde moments, Pete,Dan and Dims odd moments, Lauras randomness, Daves passion and drive. I was in Australia with an awesome bunch of people. It wasnt always plain sailing, but as Kate said, the truth is in the ending, and at least we all walked away talking. This picture to the right was taken on one of the toughest days of BoardFree - at 4am. Spot the 7 members of the team!

But there is no use in pretending it was all plain sailing. Everyday was a challenge - nothing agitates me more than people that thought we were there on holiday. The whole team worked hard, but I often feel the role that myself and Bev took on was often overlooked. Every day we managed to blag free accommodation, varying from basic to luxury. Everyday we provided the team with food and cooked meals. On top of this we went out every night fundraising. We did not stop for the majority of the journey. I'm proud of what we achieved, and I am certainly not complaining, for it was an experience - frustrating at times, but a good experience. Above is a picture of me when our gas cooker broke down on the Nullabor - good job I new how to cook on a camp fire!

Above all, we raised money for the charities - this was the thing that got me out of bed every morning. People look at Just giving and tell me we didnt raise very much. But if you convert it into dollars, we raised over $40,000 We could not have worked any harder if we tried. For those that criticise - to put it in perspective - if every person that looked at the boardfree site donated, we would have hit our target months ago.

So now, after two and a half weeks back in the country, I reflect on the journey, Perth, The 1000km mark, the nullabor, the road to Adelaide, the 2000km and 3000km mark, the great Ocean Road, Melbourne, the 4000km mark, cann river, Sydney, 5000kms, the road to Brisbane. I remember the sad times and the feelings I had, but then I think of all the good times, the happy times, the funtimes, what we, me and the team, achieved.

I see a map of how far Dave skated and wondered how it was possible
I read the global media and think of Kate with Fond memories and a friend for life.

I watch at the video's online, and remember Si making me laugh.

I study at the fundraising total and remember how glad I was that Laura joined.

I listen to the trailer and remember the good and bad times with Dim and Pete.

I drive my car and think of Dan at 15kmph, and still smiling.

I look at the photo's and remember the girl stood behind it is my new little sister, Holly.

I think of all the memories and Im so grateful I got to share them with my closest friend, Bev.

As I look back with a little tear in my eye, its hard to believe its all over, then I remember its not. Dave is still in media spotlight, and another journey on the way. The book and the dvd are on the way. Im sure both will be fantastic viewing/reading, but for the team, I dont think either will do it justice of what we went through and how it was. I know the rest of the team are frantically looking for jobs, I am too. Despite all this experience, i'm apparently not experienced enough.

Its strange to wear normal clothes again, have my own identity, have a mobile phone. I still have the need to feed others and a sense of guilt comes over me at 6pm every night, telling me I should be out fundraising. At 5am everyday I wake up, thinking that there are 9 other people to get up and feed, a strange sense of loneliness sends me back to sleep. Life after BoardFree has been about adjusting. For the first time in 23 years I dont know whats about to happen in my life next. I dont really like not knowing where my life is at, but it sure is nice to have some time for myself. Who knows whats next, but watch this space...

He's only gone and done it - now its your turn...

Yes, Dave has finally made it to Brisbane after 5 months on the road. You probably already know this, hes been all over the global news, Kate did a truely spectacular job of getting the media involved.

In truth, I am not ready to reflect on the journey just yet - there is still 11 days of things to do, the final push while we are in Australia. The fundraising must continue while we are in the media limelight. We still must keep Dave eating and well looked after otherwise his body will crash. We must sell the vans and sort out all of our kit ready to fly home. The hard work must continue.

It has been a long journey, and I don't think it has really sunk in what we have achieved. I think the team feel the same. Everyone seems exhausted, ready to use the tiny bit of energy we have left to get us back to Sydney. I think the thing that is effecting us all is the fact we havent achieved our goal. Getting Dave across the country was only half the project. The fundraising was the other.

If every person that read this blog, or looked at the website, or saw him on the news, in the papers, on the radio, we would have raised hundreds of thousands, but they haven't. I came to Oz to fundraise, I have done this to the best of my ability, but it just isn't enough. If you are reading this blog, please click on www.justgiving.com/boardfree Your support will make one very tired team very happy.

A happy new year!

Just a very quick blog to wish you all a happy new year!

We are back on the road and completing the final 800km to Brisbane. Dave is 600km away from a world record, and just over a month from finishing, a daunting thought for all the team.

The road from Melbourne went incredibly quickly - town after town went by with litlle fundraising, but on an upside we managed to get lots of great acomodation as donations to the project, thanks to some great convincing from myself, Bev and Kate.

Andy, Daves brother also joined us on the road for a bit, which was awesome. Pete kate and Andy left early for Sydney, which was an inevatable journey as of the events which have been planned for months. I missed Kate terribly when she was gone - it was so strange not having her with us. The rest of the team reached Cann River, only for Dave's blister to reach bfuk size. The decision was made to get on the road early, and a phone call later to my family in Merimbula ment accomodation and a doctor would be waiting for us.

Dave got antibiotics for his feet, and I got to finally get an afternoon off to spend with my family - Andrew and Lisa (technically cousins). It was wonderful to meet them and I cannot thank them enough for the generousity they showed the team.

The drive up to Sydney was long and tough on the whole team, especially having to stop 110km from the east coast and New South Wales Border. But in and around Sydney lay Sailability clubs. Illawarah, Kogarah and Rushcutters bay all organised events for us which were successful and raised heeps of money - we met some real characters and people that benefit form the charity - it was good to meet them - and special thanks to Tish, Len, Carol, Lisa and especially Kate Goodanew for making us so welcome, looking after us and organising the events.

In Sydney I also got to go to the harbour bridge and past the opera house on a sailability boat - it was an amazing experience going through Sydney harbour and helping to crew the boat. I also got to send some christmas pressies home, which meant a lot.

The long drive back to Cann river in Victoria was frustratingly long, and very hot - but we got there eventually and I am very greatful to Dim and Bev for keeping me going on the final section of the drive.

So we are back on the road again. Or so you would think - until we got only 12km out of cann river for one of our vehicles to break down, and for the other to start making load noises. Im not going to dwell on it but both vehicles are now fixed and working well, after a big expense, but none the less a frustrating time for the team.

When ever I speak to my Mum on the phone she loves hearing about the wildlife - so just for you mum... We've seen loads of lots of Cockatoos, an Echidna, some wallabies, and we also had a run in with a huntsman Spider - possibly the biggest spider i've ever seen.

This wouldnt be a Becki blog unless i commented on the team moral! And I have to say that although we are all exhausted we are getting on very well. I get incredibly frustrated when I read other blogs which paint the team in a negative light. We all work endlessly to keep everything ticking over, and we havent had a proper day off since Adelaide really, although we have been given the occasional afternoon. The team are undoubtedly a bit ratty in the evenings - we are all completely exhausted - but we are all holding up the best we can. We all know what our responsibilities are, so we work towards that as we are not really managed as such. The team also have the additional role of trying to keep Dave going - which is no easy job - but he seems to be just about holding up and ploughing his way to Sydney for the 16th - when we will be met with what will hopefully be one big party to celebrate his world record.

So thats all the news from me - i'm feeling very positive about finally reaching Sydney, about fundraising hopefully picking up, nd about the world record. BoardFree is looking good at the moment, with much to look forward too.

Cant believe were in Melbourne already!

Its been over three weeks since i blogged, We've crossed another state border, we've gained another team member, and i've gained another year - 2 days ago I turned 23. Its been a rocky few weeks and a lot of lows and some highs too. I guess its time for me to chuck in my perspective as many people have questioned why I haven't blogged, so here goes...

First of all I want to tell you how awesome the team are - so many people who have met us and and told us how impressed they were by the cohesiveness of the team - and I believe that is something we are proud of. I honestly believe that we are a good team who work well together and generally care about each other. But we live together, eat together, sleep together and work together - and obviously that puts pressure on the team - hense the day of unity or what ever it got named. I took a fair brunt of the criticism shared in the team that day. It was sparked by break downs in communication - tiredness leading to irritability, and Dave seeing it at its worst - which is in the evenings when we are all exhausted.

Since Adelaide things changed dramatically - Bev and I no longer saw dave skating and spent are mornings driving to the next town. Conversations about what had happened in the day were no longer discussed and the traditional highlight of the day vanished. I personally was battling with severe exhaustion which added anxiety and mood swings into the pungent mix.

The day of unity was the best thing that happened to the team - we are now stronger and better than ever! The team are helping me through and we apprecite each others strengths rather than disliking each others differences. Added to that Laura has arrived and Pete is due tomorrow. Its an exciting and changeable time for BoardFree.

Adelaide to Melbourne happened so quickly - each day was quite a routine, but along the way we had some interesting events - The great Ocean Road, the south Aus/ Vic border, some surfing (which is awesome!), Bells Beach and some fundraising. Now we're in Melbourne - and to be honest im not loving it nearly as much as Adelaide - its less friendly and very hard to fundraise. We went to a skate comp today sponsored by Quicksilver and was generally surprised as many people weren't interested in Daves epic journey. It was good to get out in the sunshine and give out some leaflets.

Tomorrow I am meeting a whole new bunch of people - The Mckinlay Family in Oz - and im so excited.

Fingers crossed for some better fundraising and for the sun to continue shining - especially as we have had changeable rainy weather the last few weeks - including giant hail stones!

2 weeks in Adelaide

I can't believe our time in Adelaide is nearly over! Daves foot is finally healing with stitches out, the team all seem recouped, and the only thing that isnt ready to hit the road is the vans, which we will sort tomorrow on our last day in Adelaide. So much has happpened, so i'll try and fit it all in as briefly as possible!

Firstly I want to say a massive welcome to the team to Laura Hatwell - someone who has proven her dedication and love of BoardFree - and shes flying out on my birthday which is one hell of a present! Congrats Darl - cant wait to have an extra pair of hands on the Fundraising team!

Just before we got to Adelaide we went of the main road and up into the Clare valley to visit Ken and Yvonne, who we met on the Nularbor. They welcomed us into their home, along with the Clare Lions Club, and we had a wonderful evening, with some wonderful wine, and great company - thank you!

Our time in Adelaide started slightly rocky, with problems with two of our vehicles. Thankfully, we managed to get these sorted out relatively quickly. Accommodation was given to us courtesy of John at Sunny's backpackers on Franklin St - Its an awesome Hostel and I would recommend it to anyone staying in Adelaide!

We've done plenty of Fundraising in the city, and the whole team have been onboard and shaking the buckets, and we have raised around $1200 aussie dollars (500 quid to you pommes) which we are very proud of! The girls have had their fairy wings on and the guys went out with silly hats and flower garlands which was really amusing!

Adelaide has been awesome for the team - after 7 gruelling hard weeks on the road with no time off we we're all in need of a break. It has given us all the oppurtunity to refresh ourselves and get back on the ball. It also gave us the opurtunity to enjoy ourselves too - a couple of great nights out, (a big thank you to the Kimmy and Micheal @The Edinburgh Castle on Currie St and PJ O'Brians), a trip to the zoo, a girly trip up to the mountains to cuddle some Koalas, and a go on the pedalows in Adelaide, not to mention Daves Birthday...

Today Dave turns 27 - you wouldnt have thought so, as today we have spent the day at a place called the beach house, which had arcade games, waterslides, dodgems, bumber boats, and amazing ice cream! We all got soaking wet, but we had a ball, including breakfast baugels in the city and buying some toys for the beach.

I spoke to loads of people yesterday on msn. I spoke to my Mum on the phone. Life continues back in the UK, and i'm feeling quite home sick. We have been welcomed in Adelaide by the wonderful hospitality of Diedre and Bob Shahinger, who have let us use their wonderful home as if it were our own, and for that I can't thank them enough.
BoardFree rolls on despite the hard times that have hit us, with dodgy vehicles, accidents, and other complications, we are all still smiling. Media has been truely amazing thanks to all the hard work that Kate has put in, most of Adelaide knows who Dave is. Photo's and films have had tremendous feedback thanks to Dim, Si and Holly. Fundraising and the day to to day running of BoardFree continues to tick over thanks to Dan and Bev's efforts. And Dave as always, has continued with the website, the sponsorship and the massive amount of work that it takes to keep this project rolling. Somebody told me a couple of weeks back that we were a very cohesive team, despite living in such close poroximities - I thought that was a real compliment.

The charities total is creeping up, which is awesome. The highlight of being in Adelaide is meeting the people connected with Sailability, and knowing we can make a difference to them. W have donated $AUS1000 to Sailability Adelaide, which is awesome.

This is probably the longest Blog i've written since being in Aus, so hope I haven't bored you all too much!

Don't forget - you can check out the website www.boardfree.co.uk and make a donation!

Its been so long!

So much has happened since I last blogged, so your best bet is to take a look at all the fab vids and pics on www.boardfree.co.uk

However - here is a list of my highlights just for all you keen viewers!

Going up in a plane to see the nullabor desert and some whales!

Whale watching form the cliffs at the Head of the bight

Playing in some massive sand dunes!

Swimming in the sea where it was really rough and there could have been sharks

Seeing Dave hit 2000km - we're one third of the way to Brisbane

Seeing Bev record the Boardfree song (check out the latest video)

Getting to the end of the nullabor and arriving at Ceduna

Having 2 rest days at ceduna oysterfest - eating oysters and raising heaps of money!

Having problems with the vans and then finding really nice guys to help us fix problems

Meeting tonnes of lovely nice people on the road

Seeing dave complete 102km in one day

The wildlife - emus, roos, snakes, spiders, whales, lizards, skinks, a dead wombat, dolphins, seals, eagles, parrots, budgies, galahs and cockatoos

Seeing the girls enter tug of war - (read hollys blog for a great discription)

Seeing Kate do an amzing job with the media and have people saying they read about us/ saw us on tv/ heard us on radio

Laura Hatwell (our very own scottish skater girl) completed her 25 mile journey and raise 450 quid

Raising heaps of money

Staying with loads of great people and getting some awesome free accommodation.

Sorry its so brief - but my blog cant do this place justice. The team enjoyed the use of the sports hall and Bev has perked up since getting in a game of hockey too!

The following morning we did three different school assemblies, which was really cool but slightly weird to be back in school again! Later we were offered a place to stay in the miners camp. We were given food and beds, and did a collection in their bar, all the guys were all really nice, and we even went down the mine the following morningwhich was a fantastic and once in a lifetime experience!

Later that day we stopped for a break and the boys were playin with some dangerous insects called Spider Ants, one of which bit holly but she was real brave!

This morning one of our vans wouldnt start, and we'd spent a night in the bush, and it was raining, which was a bit of a nightmare, but one of the miners we met drove out and helped us out as he was a mechanic - paul - thank you!

Tonight we are in Norseman which is the last town before the nullabor, and we've managed to get two free nights accomodation in a best western motel, which means we'll be well rested and sleeping in comfort before a month in vans and desert - thank you to the best western!

Right, got to dash - we got three vehicles to get ready and a hell of a lot of food shopping to do!
Im offline for c. 6 weeks now, but please keep leaving messages!

news in a nutshell, again!

Hey everyone....

Just a quickie to say all is going well here in Oz, fundraising is slow, but donations are coming in off the drivers passing dave by. He's doing really well, and has skated over 550km, which is remarkable. Thw team have taken to their roles well, and we even managed 2 nights in the bush - slightly scary, but none the less, proved we could all cope with whats ahead of us.

The vans are doing well, and its great to be on the road again. I've finally seen some scary spiders - poisonous redbacks - and some cockatoos, a real life kangaroo (although i've seen more roadkill), and some big blue tongued skinks.

The ozzies are really friendly, and most have offered us accomodation and discounts for free, which is awesome. Its been hardwork but fun having to work with Bev on catering - but we've finally cracked which tinned meals are good and which ones arent.

We visited a school this morning which was awesome - this project is very much about children, and seeing there faces and asking Dave questions in the assembly was really cool - Dave can be inspirational, and these kids certainly saw that there was more to life. I just hope that when we get to the other side of the nullabor that fundraising really picks up, and its my responsibilityt to make sure it does, but its no easy task.

So, tomorrow we are on the final leg before the nullabor, and its quite exciting. Today is a rest day - we call them this cos Dave doesnt skate - but they are far from that - its still hectic trying to get everything done.

Much love to everyone back home - im sorry the emails have been few and far between, but i hope you are all watching the web - its been updated recently so check out the photos and the videos.

Got to go visit a camping shop now, so keep watching, and keep supporting through www.justgiving.com/boardfree

news in a nutshell...

So we've finally left perth, were on day 6 of being on the road. Every where we go people are stopping in there cars and handing us donations, its really crazy. Daves been doing really well, pushing away - i think we must be up and over 200km - its much easier than miles! Hes doing really well and the team are living up to there roles. All is running smoothly.

We have three lovely support vehicles, which are all doing remarkably well. We had a couple of lucky breaks with accomodation, including staying in an old transport museum- it was the coolest place to spend the night.

Just before we left Perth I got to go and meet some kangaroos - thet were really friendly and we got to stroke them and stuff. It was awesome. The sky here is beautiful - we've seen flocks of grey cockatoos and galahs flying over, plus hundreds of green parrots. We have seen Dolphins and Pelicans in Perth Harbour. Australia really is a beautiful place.

We really are heading to the middle of no where, the towns here are so small, and I reckon were about 10 days from the nullabor. Im loving living it rough, I dont miss my phone ringing, or having a sofa or an oven, i love not knowing whats next. Its exciting.

The weather since we left Perth has been sunny and quite warm, but freezing at night.

So thats all the news in a nutshell, Sorry its so brief, but time is limited.

Just a little more....

Its Tuesday night and its not looking like were properly gonna get on the road until Thursday. But do you know what? I'm really glad. At 6pm today we drove away three vehicles. Most of the team were relieved or happy. I was emotional. George, the chap who has been fixing up our vehicles, has been an angel - he's gone way beyond the call of duty to help us. He even calls our vehicles by the names we gave them - George, Kylie and Jack/Cheech/ jacko/ undecided! Names on a postcard please. Holly and I bought George lunch today and had a beer with him. He's lovely! So, our vehicles are as follows...

Kylie - (I like to think she's mine) I named her - and I've been bombing around Perth in her - Holly took the above shot in a bus stop. She's an old Toyota pop top - and she's kitted out with a kitchen, wardrobe, and double bed. She is old but lovely.

George (named after the legend that is) is our most reliable, (prob the only one who will make it to Brisbane!) again a Toyota - but more of a people carrier than a camper, until George (1) kited it out with a double bunk bed and plenty of storage space.

Jacko/cheech/jacko/ undecided - please help! Is a jeep type thing, will act as Daves main support vehicle, as well as storage. Probably our most unreliable, but the only one with power steering. Jacko broke down on the day of the launch, in true BoardFree style. At least he waited until the end of the day. But still. So that brings me nicely to the launch.

It was emotional.Compared to John O'Groats, where the send off was a lonely carpark, Holly, Dim, Dave, Dan and Si, there were loads of people. A big breakfast bbq thanks to Rachel from Sailability, and loads of people, I managed to shake my bucket to the grand tune of nearly $500. As well as that, we raised $200 in merchandise. To top it off beautifully, the place was swarming with Skaters, and media with there big cameras. Dave set off from the jetty bridge - and right behind her were a dozen skaters. What a way to start. He had a good first day.

As I look around me, the team look tired, and slight ly frustrated. Last night we went out, got glammed up and went to a distant relatives of Si. Saowannes Place is the best restaurant in Western Australia. Home cooked Thai food, lots of good wine, the team really let there hair down. The boys wore matching flowery shirts, the girls looked elegant. It was nice. Thank you so much to Saowanee and Rob for there company and hospitality.

We need another day or so to prepare. And once were prepared we'll be away. Better to leave prepared than leave disorganized and frustrated. We're nearly there.

I love the team. The last week has really put pressure on relationships. At times I've found them frustrating and like I wanted to scream. But I think that's tiredness.

We have vans. We have all the kit we need to survive. 1 more day in Perth. Bring on BFOz

Tired but ready... D- Day is tomorrow.

5 days of solid work, jet lag, highs, lows, this week has been a roller coaster. Dave sets off tomorrow. Over 6000km of road ahead of him and his team. Sounds like a holiday to most of you. Believe me. This is no holiday - its hard work and tiring and emotional and the journey hasnt even began...

It still hasnt really hit that im in Oz. In this picture we are looking at parrots in the trees - this is as common as a blackbird. Dave had his photo taken with real kangaroos. Most of the team went sailing and saw dolphins. Today I got my little piece of reality. I saw a dolphin. I was down by the yaught club setting up for tomorrow, and right next to the yaughts, the little jetty and the clear blue water was a dolphin, jumping in the water. It was amazing. It was only from a distance and the sky was cloudy and grey - not quite as idylic as it sounds, but none the less, beautiful. I'm in Australia, and i'm about to embark on something big.

The media has gona crazy, dave has been in newspapers all over the world, including in Germany, South Africa, Turkey, All over the UK (Watch the Times all you brits), and in all the massive papers and radio shows in Oz. The media boom has finally happened. Even Ghetti Images are onboard. The world is watching this now - not just people that know me.

But its not all romantic and plain sailing. The team and Dave have desperately struggled all week to find vans. Its the wrong time of year and vans go quickly over here. We've been let down time and time again. Travellers Autobarn were potential sponsors, but dragged there interests on a little too long before finally saying no, which left things very late for us. This followed by another promise from a guy, who had a beautiful van and promised to let us know if anyone made an offer, then sold it regardless. The team looked destroyed, and for the first time this week I was close to tears. Of tiredness, of anger and of complete loss. Then came George. Recommended by the owner of our hostel, he came with a van - it was just a shell, but none the less he was thinking of endless ways to "pimp our ride" Australia style. Anxious but secretly confident smiles appeared on the team faces.

And then, later, Holly arrived. I cant tell you how happy I was to see her. Holly reminds me of me. Some people even get us confused in photo's. In some ways she is like I was 2 and half years ago. In many ways shes the person I would like to be now. I was really glad to see her.

Hollys arrival meant a late night, and this morning was an early start, coupled with a bad nights sleep which equallized 4 hours of rest. I was tired, tearful and moody. We got the train to freemantle. Holly tried to take photos of me - im lost without hair straighteners, and i look tired and almost ill. We arrive at a car market Si and I found. 1 small van in sight. Half an hour later we have looked at an awesome camper with good facilities, and a Jackaroo (4x4 jeepy thing). We wanna buy both along side Georges van. George phones. He says he has something bigger and better but for the same price - and he'll kit it out. Our luck changes. We buy the Jackaroo. We make an offer on the camper. We have three vehicles - touch wood - its not signed and sealed just yet.

This afternoon we go to the yaught club. We helped Rachel from Sailability set up for tomorrow. Dim asks us to stand individually infront of his big camera and talk. I love these moments. I can be honest. I use the experience I have gained over previous years to predict and answer his questions in the best way I can - honestly, sometimes brutally, but with some compassion and emotion for a project I have come to love.

Its late here. I look at MSN to see who's online - its middle of the day and i know people are in work. Mum, Ben and Annie aren't online. I wish I could have a cuddle from them now. Or some words of wisdom. Tomorrow is the big day - and although we're ready, i'm really emotional - maybe its tiredness, even reality kicking in. Who knows, but it all starts tomorrow and the world is watching.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://boardfreebecki.blogspot.com/2006/08/tired-but-ready-d-day-is-tomorrow.html' title='Tired but ready... Its 10am and im in our hostel on the net, searching for events to put on, support vans, shopping malls and trying to get everything organised.

The flights over here were hectic - they were late from heathrow - plus our baggage was a close call - thank you to the lovely people at Singapore airlines for giving us an extra 10kgs each! We misses our transfer flight at singapore - which meant a further 6 hr delay, and we finally arrived in Perth at 6am on tuesday local time - I left Hayling Island at 3pm on Sunday. A long trip, two days of jet lag, and bad motion sickness which is still with me now, but there is much to do, and I know everyone is feeling the same.

Its the wrong time of year to buy a van in Western Australia. The few that are around are either not up to the standard we need for the journey, or already sold - the good ones go quick. TNT magazine have been supporting the journey so far, and are talking to Auto barn for us - a major company - fingers crossed. Were running out of options and time.

Last night i had my first fundraising event - a backpacker night in one of the local bars. Its an established event - but the bar manager allowed us to go in and leaflet and run a collection. It turned out to be an amazing night - we raised $70, and Simon entered a pool competition. Not only did Si win the tournament and a $100, which he gave straight over to the BoardFree Charities, but he also won a bike - legend! Check out www.mustangbar.com.au - and a big thank you to the Pat, the staff and management at Mustang Bar, Perth.

Not only did we raise a $170 in the bar last night, but the crew (except Si and I) spent the day at the yaught club and raised $70 insponsor a section, plus, a lovely chap at breakfast yesterday gave me $10 - he had seen dave skating the final leg of BFUK in cornwall. You see, you can come to the other side of the world and still not escape the BoardFree phenomenon. $250 in one day - thats over 100 quid to you brits. Thank you to everyone that donated.
Perth is a strange place. Considering its the only city in an area twice the size of the uk, its very quiet and relatively small. The hostel is nice, clean, friendly and has fantastic facilities. Its awesome. The weather is vet much like March in the UK - still quite cold, sunny and showery. Its ok though. I still cant believe we leave on Sunday. So much to do, so little time to do it.

I know I blogged this morning (see below....)

Isn't Australia Massive?BIG THANK YOUS TO...

Chugga -Leg waxing - you were so brave! £93
Stubbsy - Chest wax - im sorry! £135
Students - Hendre carnival bucket £60
Annie - for your coin jar - thanks babe! £22
Shona, Jeff and the boys -The coin jar and sponsored Karaoke £22
Students Union - Shane, Stu, Elaine, Daniella, Martin, Mike, Nath, Sabbs, and everyone else! Its the first morning in months that I haven't had to be woken up by an alarm or my Mum. Excitement has kicked in. We fly on Sunday. Today is Wednesday. For the first time ever, I feel ready.

I missed a special occasion in my last blog. It was my 30th Blog. My 1st blog was on the 21st of December 2005. That was 241 days ago - almost 8 months ago. The time has flown by. I wish i'd had the time, energy and money to work on BF full time, but life isnt that simple. I know that I have given my all to this trip, to the charities, to Dave - and now I can go to Oz and work endlessly on getting the funds raised, and getting Dave and the team across Australia.

This week I finally hit my £3000 fundraising target, with a little over to buy the things I need for Oz. I went shopping with my Mum, and bought bags and other essentials for the trip. I now have everything I need.

I'm at home. By the time I left Swansea i'd never been so happy to be driving home. I was looking forward to seeing my family and my pets. I needed some space and some home comforts before leaving for oz, just one last time - something I hadn't had since leaving the flat. Im going to miss all my mates, especially Annie and Ben, who have held my hand through it all and never let go - something that you would expectonly family would do - im gonna miss them. (Thanks for the leaving do guys!)

Theres so many "thank-yous" to do - im going to do a whole blog dedicated to thanking before I leave.

Theres been highs and lows over the last 8 months, you'll see that if you look back over my blogs. Its not all been straight forward and as clean cut as it seems, but somehow the team and I have got through it, and BFOz has suddenly arrived. And its scary, but exciting.

Where has all the time gone.

I cant believe that I leave Swansea in a week. I've been here for four years, and now im off to the other side of the world. How did I get here?

I finished work last friday - for the first time in my life im not employed or in education, and its quite scary. BoardFree is busy as ever, theres so much to do. I know Dave is feeling the pressure now more than ever, I think we all are. There is a very tough two weeks ahead, the final countdown is on.

Still a couple of hundred pounds to raise - if you can help, please do! www.boardfree.co.uk/sponsortheteam.htm

In the style of Dan, here is my list of things I need...

A big holdall type bag

a smaller sleeping bag

a travel towel

shorts

flipflops

bikini

things to pack...

roo poo clothing

underwear

toiletries/makeup bag

passport

driving license (inc paper part)

visa

bank cards

I took Dave to see a chiropracter yesterday which was really interesting to hear what he said about Daves back and his body alignment.

On friday were off to aldershot to stay with Dims mum, and go on an expedition training course, which im really looking forward too.

The heat is on and the pressure is rising. Its all a bit strange now I've finished working. Bev and I have to attend all the graduations this week but thankfully Owen is doing a couple for me today.

Today I have produced a list of things for me to do. Its a big list. Everything from sorting out Dare Daves and Sponsor A Section, to finances and music, its all in there. At the same time its nothing compared to the million things Dave has to do. I want to help more but know I cant - something just have to be done by him. I think its helping having Bev and I here - we can keep support him through food, cleaning and other means.

The team weekend was great. We played crazy golf and ran a bbq and stall down at mumbles boat race. We sold some merchandise and raised the Swansea profile. It wasn't the same with out Si though. I missed him. Dim asked me on Camera how it felt to be the only original member of the team. I hadn't thought of it like that in a while. I'd watched every member of the team be accepted. And in honest truth, I couldn't be going to Oz with a better group of people.

realization really kicked in for me this weekend too. For the first time in a longtime I reflected on the time since last October when I initially applied. By Saturday night i felt emotionally drained, I felt a lot of mixed emotions.

I thought about when Rae, Phil and I were the first members of the BoardFree team.
When Si was excepted on, and then Dan too.
When Rae and Phil left.
When Dave and I argued for weeks
When we made up and when I realized how stupid I'd been.
When Holly first bounded up to us Hyde Park.
When BoardFree UK began, and all the emotions that went through that trip.
When Dave made it to Lands End, and how proud we all were.
When at times I was confident about raising the £3000, and how reality has kicked me time and time again since.
When I hit my highs and hit my lows.
When Bev and Kate joined the team.
When Dimitri and Pete as badger boy productions found us, and filmed us.

Its been arollercoasterr. And its only just starting.I'mm excited about it now. My £3000 still needs some help. And there is so much preparation to do, but BFOZ is coming. And I cant wait to fly to the otherside of the world with some amazing people, share this experience with them, see Davsucceeded, and at the same time, touch the lives of hundreds of children through the money we raise.

busy busy busy... and less than 5 weeks to go!

So, Ive finished my job, moved in with Dave, and have been busy fundraising and doing all things BoardFree. Bev and I sang Karaoke for 24hrs which raised around £200, and was awesome but tiring. We also did a little road trip down to Brighton to Paddle Round the Pier, where our sponsors, Kangaroo Poo, won the race - with a little help from Dave.

Flights are booked, Visa complete, and finally beginning to raise some money. Its all go living in BoardFee HQ, I can't wait to get my teeth properl into it. All the team are hopefully coming down at the weekend so I'm all excited.

Its all happening! xx

New team mates +some observations...

Big Congratulations to the new members of the team - Kate and Bev - I'm so pleased your coming to oz, and you both deserve to be part of the team. Above is a picture of just some of the BoardFree Family, as well as our new team members, Bev and Kate.

Secondly, I was feeling a bit low this morning so thought i'd perk myself up by watching some of the videos from bfuk. I made some observations.

Dave Does not drive.

Dave does not understand road signs.

Dave doesn't understand why drivers get tired. I know he's been skating along way but DRIVING IS TIRING! Its not just sitting down - its concentration - especially making sure that Dave is safe. Really Dave - learn to drive and then tell me its not tiring! (I know everyone will back this argument up... Except Dave)

Dim goes on Random Rants. He is actually very funny.

Holly is not only photogenic but good in front of the camera... Except when she gets the giggles.

Simon is keen to have everyone's point of view - in times of crisis he's always in on the action - with his camera...

Kate manages to say the right thing at the right time so when filming, there is no need for commentary.

Bev is a poser - have you seen the photo of her on the car bonnet? She likes looking in the mirror a lot too.

Dan finds writing the word 'poo' in the condensation on the windows of the van funny. Actually we all did. Childish I know.

I frown too much.

Watch the videos and you'll see what I mean...

Finally, Me and Bev are moving in with Dave soon. Its exciting. We are going to live in a big tent. Secondly, My closest friend G and Annie are going to write scripts of what is going on in Swansea while I'm in oz and e-mail them to me, so that the team can act as the different characters. G is incredibly funny and Annie can make any story sound juicy. Role on Act 1.

that's it for now.

Beccles.xxx

Come on some sponsors!

On Sunday I had my first event for raising my £3000. Myself and the Raggies went along to Hendre Carnival with some collecting buckets to raise some money. Its friday and I was sat in the green room (coffee shop) with my closest friends, ben, russell and Annie. We go there nearly every morning for a coffee, a chat, read the papers, cigarettes. We have done for the best part of three years. Then I notice a sign. Green room closes today at midday for the summer. This was my last ever coffee with the guys in the green room, as its closing next year. I burst into tears. It was like the last episode of friends. The reality hits that my life as i've known it for the last 3 years is quickly coming to an end. So much to look forward to, but stuff im going to miss too.

On an up i'm off to shrewsbury tonight with Bev and Dave to a vw festival to return the van. Im Quite excited. And today the World cup starts. wahoo!

Last night, Dave, Dan, Bev and myself dropped envelopes through every door in St Thomas in hope of some donations. £10 has come in already. We're going to collect them on Monday. Fingers crossed.

So just a quick one. Friday was only 12 miles (its ok to say that cos some days were a lot more!). We had a sketchy moment when we came out of Penzance as there was a big scary hill and the van nearly packed up. Great team work between Holly and I saved the day though!

In the final 2 miles to the big LE Dave made a speech into the little cam corder, not realising he was also miked up to Dimitri's. Dim relayed the speech back to us. Everyone in the van was crying - it was an emotional speech but really hit home as to why we were all there.

Minutes later we made it to Lands End. Crowds of people came out of the centre to watch, and we had a loo roll finish line, champagne and cameras galore. It was a great moment - thankfully I got my tears out of my system before hand and all iI could do was smile - I was proud and happy.

The afternoon and evening was amazing. We could all let our hair down for the first time in months. We had cornish pasties, Ice Cream and Beer - I never did get my cream tea. We all went down a big scary steep inflatable slide. I never mentioned on my application form that I was scared of heights - it just sounds so woosy - i cant even stand on a table with out getting scared. I forced myself to the top - then I freaked out - big time! The team and bev managed to get me down the slide eventually - thanks to dave and Si for holding my hand.

The evening was great - we just chilled with a sunset, beer, our tents and some giggles.

Its monday and Im back in work. I dont want to be here. I was getting used to not knowing where I was staying, sleeping in tents and on random sofas. Driving my little car seemed incredibly strange after driving the van for so long.

Dave did it, and im so proud. His foot is better, and hes now in london. I miss everyone already. I cant wait for Australia. Thank you to everyone who not only supported Dave but supported me.

895 miles down, 5000 to go.
much love.
Beccles
Boardfree Team

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://boardfreebecki.blogspot.com/2006/06/over-in-flash-well-done-dave.html' title='over in a flash. Good roads, Sunshine, great pub lunch and we made it to Penzance. Lands End is just 10 miles away.

This afternoon was lush - Me, Dim, Kate and Dave put out a sleeping bag in a pub garden and chilled for an hour, listening to music, preping for tomorrow, making daisy chains, and just havig fun, it was really good.

Dave did really well today. I've had a few really proud moments. Emotional. I dont know whether I'm going to laugh or cry when he crosses that line. Even Dim welled up with tears at one point today.

Back in Falmouth - shower and bed. Bev, Dan and Gael are here, Holly and Nat are meeting us in Penzance. So excited. We're stopping in Falmouth tonight with Si, and are currently in the bar where the party was which is awesome. Weather has been cool but sunny. Lots of giggles today too. Big thanks to Karen and John for having us last night and for the best nights sleep in ages! Penzance is tomorrow nights destination - about 25 miles away - then the big LE on Fri! Good news is that Bev and Hols are coming tomorrow, Kate is coming tonight, and I really hope Dan is coming tomorrow too. Its a case of wait and see. First up today was the day when we were going to be on the A30. What can I say. Having driven down it on Friday to the Falmouth Party, I was nervous. Incredibly busy, with lots of hills, bad traffic, fast cars, junctions, and sections of the road which become narrow, single roads. Not good when this is the cornish equivalant to the only motorway they have. On the plus side the Cornish are much nicer drivers than those in Somerset and Devon. They beep and wave and are patient. But the day did not start great. I was pulled over by the Police. I let Dave and Dim do the talking. He was just concerned that we were going to get hit by a big lorry. But he said if we tried to use the hard shoulder as much as possible it was ok. Sorry orange flashing light on and we were away.
There were some Scary moments. When it went to single carraige way it was So dangerous that Dave had to walk for a mile and meet us further along. I was worrying like mad when I couldnt see him. However - my van driving skills have grately improved. I reversed into two lots of parking spaces perfectly. I rock. Hollabaloo would be proud of my van driving. I miss you Hols.
The road was quiet today. Not as in cars but people. It was only Me, Dim, and Dave, Kate left this morning. I miss Bev, I missed Mum and Dad, I missed Annie and Mark. It was quiet. I suddenly felt very responsible - but at the same time I liked the responsibility - I liked tidying the van, I liked filling daves water bottles, I liked going to tesco and getting dave treats, I liked making him eat and helping as much as I could.
I like laughing too - Dimitir is so funny - and occasionally i can be funny too. On a quiet road Igave dave some road rage. He fell on the grass verge. It was funny. W e laughed a lot.
So the 800 miles target has been hit. We are staying with a lovely couple called Karen and John who we met through a skate web forum - middleageshred.com, who are just lovely - into skating, they have four cats, a rat, they provided us with pizza, wine and rollies - so i'm a happy girl. Beds for the night, internet and great company - things couldnt be better - especially as Lands end is sooooo close. Im excited.

Rocking the Road…

The bad news is, Dave didn’t make it to the big L E on time.
The good news is, his foot is a little better, he’s making good progress and I’m on the road with him! Yes, sadly, Holly has left us for the final few days and I’ve taken over driving responsibilities – I’ve only done a day and a half – and I'm tired already – Hols – you did so well and I’m so proud of you! Missing you already.
We had a fantastic weekend – I, Bev, Annie and Mark drove down to Falmouth where Simon is at Uni and had a hell of a party with the team and the students of Falmouth. I also bizarrely ran into two old school friends who I haven’t seen for years – Marie and Alan! Was so good to see them.
On Saturday we hooked up with my Mum and Dad, Rae and Phil at a lovely campsite called Barley meadow near crockernwell. The owners were totally lovely. W e had a nice relaxing eve and planned for the next day when we met up with Dave, Hols, Nat, Dim, Kate and Hol’s friend Alice.
Both Saturday and Sunday Dave had a really good skate. It was so good having everyone around him too. On Sunday we met a Lowe-syndrome sufferer called Connor and his family. It really hit me what we were doing and I was overwhelmed with emotion. It was really inspirational to meet both Connor and his family.
On Sunday eve Rae and Phil prepared a really big Barbeque at the campsite and there were 14 of us in total. Every one had a good night with football, bear and great food. It was sooooo nice to have everyone there. It was also hard knowing that the next few days were going to be really quiet with just me, Dave and Dim.
As it turns out its now Monday Night- we’re staying in a fab little place in Exeter and Kate is still with us as she couldn’t get back to London. Dave had an awesome skate today – nearly 35 miles. It’s been good seeing him skating and getting excited about skating – but I guess that’s because the end is in sight.
So, sorry its news in brief, It’s all very exciting. I just want to say a few thank you’s though…
Paul and his family at the barley meadow campsite – you’re amazing and thank you so much for your hospitality.
Mum, Dad, Rae and Phil – for being so organised for camping - for doing all the cooking and for just being awesome.
To Annie, Mark, Nat, Alice – for being such awesome company
To Kate for your map-reading, to Dim for making me laugh so much, to Hols for being so brilliant, to Dave for just pushing on that board so much and to Bev for the continuous emotional support – It was an amazing weekend, and it made the end seem so much nearer.
Right. Got to go wrestle Dimitri fir the Sofa. Night Night. xx

Emotional and helpless.

I just got back from two days with Dave. Leaving him last night was incredibly hard. And a phonecall this morning to say he's on his way to A&E....

Its been very hard being so far away from BFUK, and I can't believe that three weeks have gone since we left them 10 miles south of John O'Groats. Brief phonecalls and checking the web for pics and video's just doesnt compare to being there.

So on Saturday morning, myself, Bev and Dan drove just North of Gloucester to meet up with Dave and Hol. We were so excited to be with them. We arrived at midday and met Pete and Melissa - Dimitri's partners in crime. Dave looked pale, exhausted thin and fragile. Hol didn't look much better. I just couldnt stop hugging them. I missed them so much and seeing them like that, knowing I could do nothing to help was heart breaking. Nat was there too - which was a pick up for Dave and Hol; Dave had a skate buddy, and Hol had the emotional support that no-one else can offer.

A few miles down the road and we stop for Lunch. Pauline and Pete, aka Mum and Dad Cornthwaite rocked up on their bikes. Dave smiled. It was good that they were there.

Then Dimitri showed up. With not only his family and his dog, but a whole troop of people including Eri from the Masai, and half the cast of superheroes. I dont think the little rural pub knew what hit it.

Dave was laughing. Hol got behind her camera lens. I got the impression it was the best thing that had happened in a long time. But even though it was a happy time it was still emotional - these people were amazing and gave Dave that extra push to keep skating.

After 33 miles Dave gave up for the day. But this was an achievement - his foot is a mess. Hol and Nat left us to go and have some rest - Hol needed some time out. A swift half pint with the crazy crew and £70 in donations later, we went to stay with John and Carol - a lovely couple who know Daves Dad. Great company, great food and an interesting triple layered matress to sleep on - a good rest was had by all.

Sunday morning. Its hard to motivate Dave knowing he is in so much pain. None the less - by 11am hes on the road. a few miles later we ended up stopping for 2 and a half hours - for food, for sleep, for re-assessing his shoes, for pain, for the rain. It just wont stop raining. We go down the road to the Mcdonalds to use the toilets, have some tea and get back on the road. We end up staying for an hour while Pete and Dim entertain us by colouring in a picture using anything but crayons - including bbq sauce.

A couple of hours later and Dave has done 24 miles. We call it a day and go to the nearest services. We are 20 miles away form Bristol. Dave is in Agony. I find I have lost my bank card and have to cancel it. I also kill a little bird in my car - I feel bad. We meet up again with Holly and Nat - she is tearful. We check into the hotel - Bev and I make the decision that we drive back to Swansea later that night. Daves blister is worse and infected. While he is in the bath, Bev and I give Hol some hopeful words and motivate her and talk about Oz. She needed some girl time I think. Dave speaks to Kate then I sit with him in the corridor for half an hour. It was emotional. We needed some one on one time. We talk about everything. I'm so so proud.

Bev and I leave at 11pm. Emotional, tired, and not wanting to leave them. Bev has been amazing all weekend - motivating us all, helping out wherever possible, even skating 100metres with Dave. She kept us all going. By half 12 we are back Swansea.

This mornng I spoke to my Mum. You know sometimes when the only thing thats gonna make you feel better is your Mum. I'm really emotional. We talk about lots of things, Mum says she'll ring Hol and Dave. It means a lot to know she'll do anything to help.

10 mins later Mum texts to say Dave is on his way to A&E. My heart sinks. I phone Hol. They have decided to get Daves foot some medical advice and give him a couple of rest days. Its the best decision they could make.

So, BFUK isnt going to finish on Sunday - but we are all going to Lands End anyway. I'm going to take time off and take over Hol's duties driving the van until the trip is over. Australia suddenly seems very close. BFUK has been a big learning curve and a real warm up for Dave. Its a case of wait and see. I love my job but right now I dont want to be here.

Homesick - from the van.

I'm missing the team. I wish i was in the van. I had an awesome weekend in Swansea with Bev, and all my mates on Friday night, but I cant help but wish I was with Dave. He's had a few tough days - with the van playing up and a stress fracture in his foot - I can't help but feel i'm needed. i know hollabaloo (holly) is there - but it cant be easy for her either. Im just so proud of them both for getting this far. And I know they are going to make it to the end.

I phoned today to see what i could do to help. I organised the campsite, and im trying to organise the alpha male boys to skate with Dave near Taunton. I also hope to help out with some press between Edinburgh and Lancaster. So im not completely useless. Only 12 days til i can give Hol and Dave a big hug. Bring on the 12 days....

John O'Groats to Swansea in 24hrs...

After a well rested night in Wick with Neil and Mary, we got up early to drive the last 18 miles to John O'Groats... to find the van wouldn't start. We called out the AA, while Si and I bombed it up to JOG to meet the media - to find there wasn't any. Bad start. But it gave Dave one final chance to relax.

So, at 10am - 2 hours late, we all rock up to JOG to get Dave on the road. Excited, emotional, nervous and proud are just some of the words to describe how it felt. We had our first team hug. It meant a lot. Watching Dave set off, cheering him on - I had a lump in my throat. Hes come so so far over the last 8months.

So off he went - with a steady two mile up hill - nothing like starting tough. We all drove behind him - and stopped for a quick photo shoot. As he went a long we were right behind him or next to him - passing him water out of the side of the van, taking pics, getting some film. Dimitri fell out of the van while it was moving - hilarious. After 12 miles Dan, Si and myself had to leave. It was heart breaking. Leaving Dave for the first time on his own - it was hard to drive away.

24hours later, 3 countries, 750 miles and a night in manchester, i'm back in Swansea and gutted to be back in work. The only good thing about it is i can keep an eye on the web for updates of daves progress.

So he's on day three. I just had a text to say he's done his first 100 miles. Im so proud of him. James Cracknell has e-mailed him an awesome quote too. I miss him. I miss the van. I miss Si and Dan who i know feel like this too. I miss Hol and Dim - i know they're looking after Dave and getting it all on camera - but i wish I was there.

On that note - i'll keep you updated.
Much Love.
Beccles.
xx

Im in Scotland!

Yes - i'm in bonny Scotland. A long long way from Swansea.

So I didnt get to blog before I left - so heres a quick rundown of my journey up to Wick (near John O'Groats)...

First off I must mention the BFUK send off BBQ, it was great to see both old faces and new, and see fellow collegue owen getting his legs waxed for a sponsorship of £200. Well done babe! I also finally got to meet Dimitri - a very cool camera guy who is documenting BFUK.

We eventually set off from Swansea on thursday at 4pm - it was a little hectic trying to load poor little Billy (my car) with all that Dave and Hols would possibly need for BFUK. So with Dan, Dave and of course Elsa (accompanied by little elsa), we set off for Manchester. When we arrived - Daves little Bro Andy greeted us with some great food and a couple of much needed pints in a nearby bar. Some of Andys mates came back to the flat and me and Dan got each of them to say a few words about BoardFree - cheers boys. We were all pretty tired - despite the fact we had only done a couple of hundred miles of the massive journey.

Friday morning I awoke to a video camera in my face. Dave - "Beccles its 11am - you overslept - come on!" I decided to swear a bit so he would switch the camera off. It was actually 9am and Andy had a cooked us a full breakfast to get us on our way. Bless. So today our mission is to get to Preswick - near Ayre to collect our van, and Holly - as well as meet up with Dimitri.

A few hours later and we're at a gym car park in Scotland with a big spangley van in front of us. He's beautiful (name and sex of van tbc). Dave from vwmagizine is a lege - not only does he give us this beautiful amazing beast of a van but him and his lovely wife Joyce (and Jacko the dog) put us up for the night in a lush house overlooknig the airport - watching the sun go down in such a great location, with fab food and wonderful company was a great way to end the day. Holly also joined us which was awesome. Scots are so friendly - i know where i get it from....!

6.15am. Saturday morning. I jump in the shower while the team are still sleeping. I wake Dave up he groans then realises where he is. He smiles. I go into Hols and Dan. Like Children in Bunkbeds - they winge. I feel like a Mum. 10 mins later - they are still not up - I winge more loudly and they get up.

7.15am were on our way to glasgow to get Dimitri.

8.15am - we get breakfast in a services. Everyone looks tired yet refreshed. Dimitri tries to climb into one of those kids ride things. He falls and cause a scene. We all laugh. Hol, Dave and Dan travel in the Van - Dim and I follow to get some shots of the van. The sceneray is breath taking, Dimitri gets some amazing shots and I know that soon the team will be united when we collect Si from the airport.

12.30pm. We park up and enter a sports bar in Inverness. Man U VS Chelsea - no point trying to talk to the guys. Me and Hol do the manly thing in that situation - go to Halfords.

3pm. Inverness Airport. Si has just got off the plane holding nothing more than a carrier bag and a cup of coffee. Nothing like travelling light. The team are together for the first time ever. And it feels awesome. I muck up when Dimitri is filming - i cant get the door on the van open. We all laugh lots. Life couldnt be better.

The final drive is upon us. I phone round the media trying to ensure a good turnout tomorrow. Dimitri and Simon get some great shots. Hol and Dan drive. Dave chills in the back of the van - editing footage to go on the web. Every now and then he looks up at the road - he smiles. It hits me how proud I am. Some of the roads are good - others bad. lots of hills that go on forever - and Hol and I talk for Daves Safety. Hes gonna be fine. I know it. He is amazing and inspiring and he is still smiling despite facing such a big journey. Proud is the only words to describe.

7.15pm. We are in Wick staying with a lovely couple. Good food, good wine, and a lot of giggles over the table. We just couldnt stop laughing.

The whole team are together. Its magic. Tomorrow the journey begins for Dave and we are all behind him. Dan, Si and me have to leave to go back south tomorrow. Its scary and exciting. I wish everyday was like today. I wish we could stay together. I dont want to leave, I dont want the team to be all over the country. But its the way it is.

Dave your amazing. Good Luck baby.
ps. Mum - thanks for sellling another calender and 4 wristbands!xx

its so exciting!

<img style="DISPLAY: block; Here are two recent examples of me getting stiched up. Firstly - with gaffa tape to the point that i fell on the floor. Secondly, leaving my pint with my mates and coming back to find it covered in tape. I had to puncture it with a key to drink it. Funny times.

Dave has just been to my office to give me an update on all things BoardFree, GPS, MP3, trainers and some cereal bars - you have to love the things that Dave finds to blag. Its amazing how companies are so willing to help - lets hope that many more will realise how amazing this project is - both in terms of a world record and a fundraising mission!

BFUK is nearly here and i'm very excited about a trip to bonnie Scotland. The sun is out here and that makes me happy too. I've also spent a lot more time with my friends and my new partner recently - how I am going to miss them all when I go to Oz.

My flat has turned into a longboard factory - my housemates boyfriend has an amazing talent for shaping decks - and we have been pimping them up for our mates. I am currently working on customizing my own, BoardFree stylee - it looks awesome!

I have a couple of days off work now to be hardcore BF, so watch this space for some updates.

BFUK - Its coming...

36 days to go and its getting very exciting - talks of the "come ride with me" initiative and a van to help dave along on BFUK, the BoardFree game plan is stepping up!

And with term drawing to a close, im looking forward to getting busy with BoardFree. Holly is in sunny swansea at the mo (actually its raining) - so i'm going to meet up with her later for a drink and a get to know session (with beverages of the alcoholic type) seeing as shes gonna be my only gal friend for a few months. Its quite exciting.

I'm looking forward to pimping up my little yellow car, 'Billy' with some boardfree stickers, and taking him for a spin up to John O'Groats. I'm looking forward to seeing Dave achieving the uk trip - his dedication to training recently has been phenomenal, and I'm so proud and inspired by how he is doing. I'm also looking forward to the party at the end, and spending some quality time with the team.

On a personal note, i'm seeing someone which is making me incredibly happy and has definately perked me up! With NUS Wales Conference, and the elections for my job as president, its been tough. With so many people telling me that i'm doing the wrong thing and that I should be running for President again, or for NUS, I feel like im letting a lot of people down. Its been emotionally draining. It only seems like two minutes ago that I was on the election trail, and what a week it was. Since then there have been massive highs and some serious lows.

But I know that Boardfree is the best thing that I can do. Its going to change my life, and its going to help three amazing charities and hundreds of children. I have to leave now. With my head high, knowing that i've made the best of it. I have worked incredibly hard, and done all that I can for the Union that I love.

On a rather sad note, i'm really gutted that Rae and Phil arent coming to Australia. They are two lovely people, and it wont be the same without them. But I know the decision they made was probably for the best and I respect them for that. And i'm so chuffed that they are still gonig to be involved.

So news in brief. There you have it.

Its been a while...

Its been a really busy few weeks, so I have to apologise, firstly for not bringing you up to date, and secondly, for the length of this blog.

First up i'm gonna talk about the BoardFree trip to the big smoke, in cute matching hoodies and a roo called skippy. It was an awesome weekend, I really felt like I got the chance to bond with the team more - especially Si because he's all the way down in falmouth. The profile of BoardFree was raised with a bit of merchandise sold along the way. We also had the pleasure of meeting both Holly and Dee, which was fab.

Following on from this, Dave and I hit Portsmouth at the weekend, to tell Holly shes coming to Australia as Photographer. Shes a bubbly crazy character and I cant wait to spend 5months with her - Congratulations!! Dave also had the pleasure of visiting the mad house that is my home on sunny Hayling Island. I think he was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of poeple and pets, but it was good for my parents to meet him and have a chat about all things BoardFree. Happy Birthday to my kid sister too - 17 meg - watch out roads here she comes!

Lots has been happening in work for me too, with highs and lows. The University has decided to close one of the libraries and students came out in their hundreds to protest, with a petition of 1300 signatures. Its time like this that I am proud to represent hundreds of passionate students. On a low note we had our annual varsity match against Cardiff Uni, and lost for the first time in years. A good night was had by all - see pic above - my mates tor, ramya and ben in the pub.

Getting back to my charitable roots I helped out with RAG week, including selling myself at the slave auction. I was bought for £150 - not bad! Well done to Swansea RAG for raising £2300 for their chosen charities. (Myself, Owen and best mate annie pictured at the auction).

So enough of the work stuff, BoardFree! Talk of flights and fundraising is scaring me a bit. Not because im not 110% commited - its just a big reality check that this is happening. Dave is preparing himself through training, im preparing by visiting sunbeds. No comparrison. I've got to knuckle down to some fundraising. Work is taking up some much time, but i have two weeks off coming up, so i have every intention of working really hard on some events then. Seeing Holly's drive for it all is inspirational, it was refreshing to remember what it was like when Dave told me I was going to Oz. So reality is kicking in. There are so many challenges to face, and the excitement I had is coming back. So rock on some time off work, come on BFUK!

Got to stop....

Another interesting week has passed since my last blog, so heres a run down of whats been going on...

I had a meeting to try and organise my big event for boardfree, feed back from people was interesting and given me a lot to think about in terms of viability, so sadly its back to the drawing board before i can tell you all about it...

last fri dan and i attended the dance society show, which was awesome - well done to all the girls (and the two boys), it was wicked! All proceeds from the programs are going to boardfree, and dan and I managed to sell a t-shirt and a band and raise some awareness.

Apart from that, i've been back on the campaign trail, my dearest friend luke is running for athletic union president, and he's the only person for the job -he is amazing and i wish him the best of luck!

Its a very nostalgic week for me, with the elections, phil leaving, and knowing that my promising future in nus is about to go. In the grand scale of things I was going to run for a second year of being president then move on to nus. Then boardfree came along and I couldnt resist. And I know that its the best thing to do; its just hard to let go of something that has been a big part of your life for three years.

I'm feeling a bit tearful bout it all, but good luck to luke and phil.

But yay! BoardFree will be my life from now on. An exciting challenge for us all, but most of all dave. I had my first dream about dave skating at the weekend, and he just went for miles and miles. It recomfirmed my undoubted belief that dave can face this challenge that lies ahead of him. And of course, i'll be his official leg massager and support him all the way. Its all become very real this week. We are going to Oz, Dave is going to skate a lot and we are all going to raise a lot of money for three incredibly worthwhile charities.

Two more things before i sign off. Yes, I am smoking again, and Dave and Dan are really disapointed in me. I am too. I'm going to try and quit again this week. Sorry guys. On the upside though, the fat girls guide to life and has become the bible of the boardfree diet. The last two weekends have shown that I am very much getting back to the old me - a fun loving party animal and my closest friends have said how good it is to see me up to my usual tricks. Its good to be back...

rocking the catwalk....

Its all happening here - fashion shows, dances and the possibility of the event of the year!
Where to begin...

So, on friday, we held an Students' Union event to promote body image - a full on Fashion Show, and despite all the tears and tribulations of putting it together, the night was awesome - a big well done to all the models and the team for a wicked night! Dan filmed the whole show - and we are selling the dvd for £4 - with the money being split between boardfree and the unions charities. I'll miss you but good luck!

And the fun doesn't stop there either - we will be supporting both the SU dance society at their event this friday, and the drama society at their play the week after - so its all very exciting, and a big thank you to the enthusiam of the students once again.

Today I had a meeting with the staff to discuss the possibility of a big event in the summer here at the uni - there's still lots to discuss, but possibilities are endless, so we'll just have to wait and see.

After a difficult few months i feel i am finally getting back to being me - a crazy weekend with my mates seemed to be what I needed - and I feel I have to say sorry to Wales for being so rubbish at rugby, come on England!!!

So there we are, news in brief, and its all exciting and good...

BoardFree BoardFree BoardFree

This week is all about BoardFree! Sometimes life throws things at you that are hard to deal with, but then sometimes it throws you something amazing like BoardFree. The last week has been very hard, but BoardFree has kept me smiling all week...

Dave had an exciting and eventful weekend in London, and even got a quote from Tony Hawk, which says to me the speed at which the BoardFree phenomenon is growing. This week I have also had some time to spend doing things, like looking for TV and Radio shows to get on board, looking for potential sponsors, and continuing the search for celebs to donate signed memorabilia for auction. The other big thing is to try and sell some more calenders - they are tasteful but funny - please buy one! (above is a pic of me preparing for my shot in my office...)

BoardFree is a different thing for different people. For some its a record breaking journey, for others it is a massive charity project. For the team, I believe it is both of these things, but also a life changing journey. Somehow, Dave has managed to carefully put a team together of witty passionate and dedicated people that get on incredibly well and who I really can't wait to spend 4 months with!

Its all so exciting. And its not just the team I'm excited about. I can't wait to raise money. I can't wait to get on the road. I can't wait till the next time I go along the seafront with Dave, and people give his board a funny look, and I jump in and go "have you heard about BoardFree?!" I love that bit the most. I love talking to random people and seeing the look on their faces and knowing that they are going to go home and check out the website. I love that even strangers want to be part of it.

And to end on this positive note, and for those fans of the BF Diet - today I proudly bought a big pair of "Bridget Jones" pants which are amazing! Highly recommended for those of you that don't get the BoardFree high - they work wonders!

Another week in the Boardfree Diary...

213 days til BoardFree Australia
96 days til BoardFree UK
Where is all the time going?

Its very difficult sometimes to do a full time job and be 100% dedicated to BoardFree. But on Saturday I spent hours on the web, looking for more famous people to donate signed merchandise and pics, and looking for TV programs and radio stations to cover this amazing adventure. It was good to spend some time with Dan too - our latest Roadie. Its such a wicked group of people in the team - I can' wait to spend 4 months with them all sharing this phenomenal experience.

Dave has been in London all weekend - and it sounds like its been a good one in terms of spreading the BoardFree word. My Mum is pretty good at that too - I'm totally blessed to have such an amazing family behind me - that are all as obsessed with BoardFree as I am.

So with the count down timers ticking, its time to step into action with raising my £3000. I'm hoping to do a massive event in June this year - but its all a bit top secret at the mo, so watch this space for more details...

If you too are a BoardFree fanatic, and want to get involved - by one of our saucy, but tastefulcalendarss, or a t-shirt, or a wristband, or dare Dave to do something Stupid, or sponsor a section of the journey, or put Dave up for a night in BFUK, or just donate online, perhaps you could evenorganizee an event. The list of ways is endless - so get involved!

5 become 6

It's been a weekend of Boardfree fun, and lots of news to tell...

So on Saturday I was slightly annoyed to have to get up early and put on a suit to attend a meeting to do with work. three hours later I was set free to go home, change and meet my mates in town for lunch. I was then going to get a bit of shopping in before my phone started ringing whilst in the changing rooms of new look. It was Dave - and with that I left the shop and dashed home to get changed for the third time in 5 hours - this time into "sensible clothing". I feel like one of those dolls that you change for every occasion.

So before you know it i'm on the beautiful seafront with the team - Si had come up from Falmouth and Dave and Phil were there too. Dan( see pic) was also present - which was frustrating as I knew that we were going to tell him later that night that he was coming to oz with us, and I'd already put my foot in it several times....

So we spoke to some people, and the boys got some skating in, as well as some filming (when Si remembered to press play!) Later that eve we were all together at Daves house, and having our first filmed team blog - it was a real giggle especially as Dan was behind the camera. Dave told him whilst he was filming. Dan is a lege and i'm so glad hes going to be part of the team. So yes, 5 have become 6, and hopefully soon, 6 will become 7 when we find a photographer.

On Sunday I was honoured to watch the BoardFree boys play football, so honoured that I even offered to film all 90 mins of it. Bearing in mind i know very little about footy this was always going to be a challenge. To be honest Iwas a bit bored and very cold. But none the less, I am told that my commentary was so amusing that Dave and Dan decided to spend hours editing it to get 11 minutes of what i am told is pure comedy - have a look at my team page if you need a giggle.

As for the Boardfree Diet, its going well - no cigarettes, lots of good wholesome food, a couple of kilometres of swimming, and a pound or two dropped - things are going good. However, this week is going to be a testing one. It brings challenges that I do not know how to face. We shall see...

The BoardFree Diet

So, on the 1st of January, the UK goes mad. It starts advertising Easter, fitness video's and the latest diet fad. The nation tries to change their lives, and you know that by June no one will care.

I'm most guilty. My new years resolutions conformed to the stereo typical Brit. Last year I was told I was clinically obese, and smoked like a chimney as a result. I've been on every diet under the sun - from atkins to herbal life, and yeah, I lost the weight, but didnt keep it off and it didnt make me happy.

Then Boardfree came along. And I'm doing well.

Its been 10 days without a cigarettes, And i've been eating well - I even excercised and tonight i am getting into a swimming pool for the first time in three years. I have to admit that on friday I had a few fags with my champagne - and I've had a bit of chocolate. But i'm not smoking 20 cigarettes a day, and i'm a couple of pounds lighter already. Last night, as a treat, and to celebrate the new series of the OC, Annie and I had domino's pizza. Then watched celebrity fit club. Then another program about obesity. And i didnt feel guilty about my texas bbq pizza because i knew that i could get back on the wagon today.

So while the nation is going crazy over the latest diet craze, and we are made to feel guilty by putting people with weight problems on TV, I have some moral words for those of you that do want to diet.

Ignore it all. Find your dream and follow it. Its the only motivation you need.

Dont let the reason to diet be because you want to look like Posh Spice, or find a nice man,or you think it will make you happy or because the media tells you its wrong to be big. Do it because it can change you life, make your dreams come true, make you healthy andmost of all, because you want to.

Im gonna lose the weight and quit the fags and get the excercise because BoardFree is my dream and is going to have a massive impact on my life. And part of that is wanting to feel good. The BoardFree diet has been born...

Happy 2006

So its 2006, 4months till bfuk. 8 months til I fly to the otherside of the world and Dave skates a silly amount of miles. £3000 to raise. 2006 is going to be a busy and exciting year.

New years resolutions? Yes:
1. Priorities. Sometimes there are more important things in life, that we take for granted and often neglect. Hence my resolution to remember whats important. And raising £3000 for charity is pretty high on that list!
2. Quit smoking. I realised I have no will power. But I'm up to 43hrs....
3. Get fit. I need to. For Australia if nothing else.

Things are a bit weird at the moment - I think its really only just properly hit me that boardfree is a part of my life. Over xmas my wonderful Mum and I really went mad for selling wristbands, t-shirts and calenders. And between the pair of us, we made nearly £180! Mainly t-shirts. Just got to keep trying to sell more. And get on with the fundraising.

Im seriously considering trying to organise a mass skate along Southsea seafront in Portsmouth - there is a big skate park there - and I might even try and do it myself - and get my family to sponsor me. I had my second lesson yesterday. It was ok. ish.

Im also trying to do a big event at the Uni where I work. Watch this space...

So much to think about, so much to do. What would be wicked is if Little Britain invited Dave to visit the travel shop and he could try and blag a free flight, and all you hear is "computer says no". Comedy genius.

my 1st blog!

This is very exciting as its my 1st blog. But don't believe that this is the first time I have written about boardfree - I have a very sexy little book where all my thoughts on it are written, and have been since October. Watch this space for some juicy quotes...

Boardfree started for me when me and and my flatemate, Annie, were going for an afternoon walk along the seafront, when we ran into Dave and some big yellow thing with big green wheels. He told us about boardfree, but at the time I had some silly crush on him that had gone on for a couple of years, so I didnt really listen, but arranged to meet up for a pint. (for the record - this crush no longer exists - I now know Dave!)

So we met for a pint, and since then, BoardFree has become a way of life. It started out just helping him, (including dedicating some of my handbag to the cause - see pic) then I applied to be a roadie, then I got picked to go in the support van, and the rest is history...

I'm going to Australia... And its so exciting! There's a long way to go yet - lots of fundraising, poromotion, planning and blagging, but its all very exciting. Australia is so close, yet so far away. So much to do, and so little time to do it. But its christmas!

Tonight, myself, Dave, and Rae and Phil - the other Roadies, are having dinner tonight and swapping pressies, which i'm really looking forward too. Just think, this time next year, we'll be on the home straight to Brisbane....
