BFUK - Its coming...

36 days to go and its getting very exciting - talks of the "come ride with me" initiative and a van to help dave along on BFUK, the BoardFree game plan is stepping up!

And with term drawing to a close, im looking forward to getting busy with BoardFree. Holly is in sunny swansea at the mo (actually its raining) - so i'm going to meet up with her later for a drink and a get to know session (with beverages of the alcoholic type) seeing as shes gonna be my only gal friend for a few months. Its quite exciting.

I'm looking forward to pimping up my little yellow car, 'Billy' with some boardfree stickers, and taking him for a spin up to John O'Groats. I'm looking forward to seeing Dave achieving the uk trip - his dedication to training recently has been phenomenal, and I'm so proud and inspired by how he is doing. I'm also looking forward to the party at the end, and spending some quality time with the team.

On a personal note, i'm seeing someone which is making me incredibly happy and has definately perked me up! So news in brief as always. Exciting times are getting closer - and i must start clearing my desk of all this paper!

Congratualtions to Owen, Owen, Miles, Chugga, Kylie and Emma on winning the elections. You guys are gonna be great.

The election results for me were time to say close the chapter, finish my projects and start my new ones with Boardfree.

Gem, Ow, Phil, Bili, Bev -the best team I could have possibly hoped to work with - you guys are amazing and i'm so grateful for the amazing year we have had together.
Dave, Dan, Holly, Si - my new team - its going to be amazing, bring on Australia!

time to go.

Its been a very emotional week for me since I last blogged. With NUS Wales Conference, and the elections for my job as president, its been tough. With so many people telling me that i'm doing the wrong thing and that I should be running for President again, or for NUS, I feel like im letting a lot of people down. Its been emotionally draining. It only seems like two minutes ago that I was on the election trail, and what a week it was. Since then there have been massive highs and some serious lows.

But I know that Boardfree is the best thing that I can do. Its going to change my life, and its going to help three amazing charities and hundreds of children. I have to leave now. With my head high, knowing that i've made the best of it. I have worked incredibly hard, and done all that I can for the Union that I love.

On a rather sad note, i'm really gutted that Rae and Phil arent coming to Australia. They are two lovely people, and it wont be the same without them. But I know the decision they made was probably for the best and I respect them for that. And i'm so chuffed that they are still gonig to be involved.

So news in brief. There you have it.

Its been a while...

Its been a really busy few weeks, so I have to apologise, firstly for not bringing you up to date, and secondly, for the length of this blog.

First up i'm gonna talk about the BoardFree trip to the big smoke, in cute matching hoodies and a roo called skippy. It was an awesome weekend, I really felt like I got the chance to bond with the team more - especially Si because he's all the way down in falmouth. The profile of BoardFree was raised with a bit of merchandise sold along the way. We also had the pleasure of meeting both Holly and Dee, which was fab.

Following on from this, Dave and I hit Portsmouth at the weekend, to tell Holly shes coming to Australia as Photographer. Shes a bubbly crazy character and I cant wait to spend 5months with her - Congratulations!! Dave also had the pleasure of visiting the mad house that is my home on sunny Hayling Island. I think he was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of poeple and pets, but it was good for my parents to meet him and have a chat about all things BoardFree. Happy Birthday to my kid sister too - 17 meg - watch out roads here she comes!

Lots has been happening in work for me too, with highs and lows. The University has decided to close one of the libraries and students came out in their hundreds to protest, with a petition of 1300 signatures. Its time like this that I am proud to represent hundreds of passionate students. On a low note we had our annual varsity match against Cardiff Uni, and lost for the first time in years. A good night was had by all - see pic above - my mates tor, ramya and ben in the pub.

Getting back to my charitable roots I helped out with RAG week, including selling myself at the slave auction. I was bought for £150 - not bad! Well done to Swansea RAG for raising £2300 for their chosen charities. (Myself, Owen and best mate annie pictured at the auction).

So enough of the work stuff, BoardFree! Talk of flights and fundraising is scaring me a bit. Not because im not 110% commited - its just a big reality check that this is happening. Dave is preparing himself through training, im preparing by visiting sunbeds. No comparrison. I've got to knuckle down to some fundraising. Work is taking up some much time, but i have two weeks off coming up, so i have every intention of working really hard on some events then. Seeing Holly's drive for it all is inspirational, it was refreshing to remember what it was like when Dave told me I was going to Oz. So reality is kicking in. There are so many challenges to face, and the excitement I had is coming back. So rock on some time off work, come on BFUK!
